Young Pianist Champion Oliver Chen Donates His Prize

Oliver Chen, son of Chinese philanthropist Guangbiao Chen won out outstanding performance award in the final round of 2019 BOYA Piano Festival held in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province in China.
This is a fresh award for Oliver among the youth group at the festival after he obtained the best musicality award from Maria Hettero International Piano Competition in Spain last month. Oliver’s gift in piano was discovered and nurtured by Lang-lang, one of the few most renowned pianist and educator in the world, who has jointly staged a number of performances with Oliver.
In his teenage, Oliver already harvested a host of awards as an excellent pianist. In 2012, he stood out as the champion in the International Piano Competition in Singapore and Shanghai International Piano Competition for Young Talents. In 2014, he won the first awards in the Golden Sunflower Cup Piano Contest, China Best Voice Piano Contest, as well as the 3rd Little Jasmine Cup Piano Contest. The ensuing years witnessed his awards in Italy and Steinway Piano Competition.
BOYA Piano Festival was established in 2015 and rotates annually in major Chinese cities. Each year 4,000 candidates out of 100,000 from more than 200 cities shall compete in the final round.
More impressively, Oliver announced at the awarding ceremony that he would donate his prize – a quality piano - to the School Board of Muli County in Sichuan province, an impoverished mountainous region in Southwest China. He also volunteered to teach piano in the primary schools during vacations.
